ROYAL OAK — The Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, a collection of images from the world’s largest wildlife photography competition, is at the Detroit Zoo’s Ford Education Center for the eighth consecutive year.
The exhibition of 100 winning photos from the 2012 competition runs through Sept. 8 and is free with zoo admission. The images were chosen from more than 48,000 entries by aspiring amateurs and established professional photographers from all corners of the earth.

TRAVERSE CITY — Mary McKinney Schmidt, author of “Tiny Treasures,” will be making a presentation about her photography and book of photographs and stories of wildflowers from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at Horizon Books of Traverse City.
Musician Les Dalgliesh and author of the novel, “Fallen Idyll,” will be signing books from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, also at Traverse City’s Horizon Books.
