Meet after hours

elk rapids — The Elk Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce December "Business after Hours" will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 20, hosted by Elk Rapids Historical Society at 301 Traverse St. All Business After Hours events are free and open to the public.

MAS software

traverse city — Dennis, Gartland and Niergarth will host a MAS 90/200 support group from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 13, in their training room located in the Delta Center at 415 Munson Ave. Participation is open to all new and continuing users of Sage Software's MAS 90 and MAS 200 operating systems. There is no charge to attend.

Holiday open house

charlevoix — Real People Media will hold a holiday open house and Voice Box session from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 16, at the newly remodeled video production studio located at 12555 Taylor Road.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to record a holiday song or greeting, animate a holiday greeting in the animation station and find out more about community-produced television and RPM's video/audio equipment lending library.

Disaster planning

cadillac — The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium will offer a free Department of Homeland Security certified course on mass fatalities planning and response from 8 to 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post, 7711 U.S. 131 S.

Participants learn the basics of mass fatality response while having opportunities to exchange rural perceptions and brainstorm solutions to simulated emergencies.

It is strongly encouraged that students have a working knowledge of the Incident Command System/National Incident Management System, gained through completion of the Federal Emergency Management Agency IS 100, IS 700 and IS 800.

DiSC training

NMC's Training Services division has added DiSC behavioral styles training to its suite of professional development offerings.

Trainers Heather Fraizer and Betsy Williams completed the 24-hour DiSC training certification in October in response to requests for the training from customers. DiSC is a model for assessing and understanding individuals' behavioral tendencies. Its purpose is to foster more teamwork, improved performance and goal attainment in the workplace.
