Book sale

KALKASKA — The Friends of the Kalkaska County Library will hold a used book sale from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 2-3, in the Northland Plaza Mall. Call 258-9411.


‘Fiddler on the Roof’ to be staged

TRAVERSE CITY — The Homeschool Arts Project will stage the musical “Fiddler of the Roof.”

Performances will be held at the St. Francis High School auditorium, 123 E. 11th St. Performance times are 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, May 2-3, 9-10 and 16-17; and at 3 p.m. Sundays, May 4, 11 and 18. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students. They may be purchased at or by calling (800) 979-2420.


Dance is scheduled

TRAVERSE CITY — The public is invited to a dance on Saturday, May 3, at the new home of Crystal Bindi Studios/Zuni Entertainment, 10660 E. Carter Road.

The event will be held from 7:30-11:30 p.m. with a variety of music provided by a DJ. Admission is $5 per person. Dancers also are encouraged to bring a dish to pass, a favorite beverage and dance shoes. Instructors and partners will be available for inexperienced dancers or singles.


Chinese film series

TRAVERSE CITY — The children’s matinee on Saturday, May 3, at the State Theatre will have a Chinese flavor as Big Bird from Sesame Street visits China.

“Big Bird in China” will be shown at 10 a.m. at the State, 233 E. Front St. Admission is 25 cents. The film is part of Northwestern Michigan College’s International Affairs Forum’s mini Chinese Film Series, presented as a springboard to its June China conference.


Fiddlers’ Jamboree

TRAVERSE CITY — The Original Michigan Fiddlers Association will host a Fiddlers Jamboree and an old-fashioned square and round dance on Saturday, May 3, at Twin Lakes Park, 6800 N. Long Lake Road.

The jamboree will be hosted from 1-5 p.m. and all acoustic musicians are welcome. Lunch, dinner and beverages will be available. An open mic from 5-6:30 p.m. will be followed by dancing from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Call Don or Rosie Brown, 947-5108.
