Treatment accessible

I have read with interest the article concerning post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) published in the Record-Eagle on Sunday, June 30. The article was written based on very limited information provided by Christine Stalsonburg. Ms. Stalsonburg has noble intentions. However, she states that veterans can’t get help in a timely manner. As a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam war, I can tell her firsthand that excellent counseling and group therapy is available right here in Traverse City. A veteran can contact either the Traverse City VA Clinic or the Vet Center #445; they will not be turned away or put on the back burner as she states. Both offices have onsite licensed counselors. There are also two doctors of psychiatry available. It’s up to the veteran to take that first step. Yes, treatment can last for months and even years. Also, Ms. Stalsonburg has a grand vision of opening a treatment center, but for now she has the cart before the horse.

Appreciates the gift

Wow! As we near the end of construction on the new Holiday Road I am in awe of what a beautiful, winding road it is with room for not just cars, but pedestrians and bikes. After years of disrepair and potholes, hostile to pedestrians, it will be a dream come true for those of us who use it daily. I/we appreciate the Ottawa and Chippewa community for this grand gift.
