War stories

GLEN ARBOR — Glen Arbor’s Cottage Book Shop will host authors Benjamin Busch and Katey Schultz from 2 to 4 p.m., Monday, July 15.

Benjamin Busch’s memoir “Dust to Dust,” tells of life and death, peace and war and the adventures of childhood and the revelations of adulthood. He is a decorated U.S. Marine Corps infantry officer who served two combat tours in Iraq and an actor on HBO series “The Wire.”

Katey Schultz, a summer teacher at Interlochen Arts Academy, will read from her book “Flashes of War.”

TRAVERSE CITY — Horizon Books will host book signings by the following authors this week:

n Hank Feeley, author of “Painting the Magic of Sleeping Bear Country” at 4 p.m., Saturday, July 20.

n Mardi Link, author of “Bootstrapper: From Broke to Badass on a Northern Michigan Farm,” from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 20.

n Gloria Whelan, author of “Living Together,” from 1 to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 20.

n Loreen Niewenhuis, author of “1,000 Mile Great Lakes Walk,” from 12 to 2 p.m., Saturday, July 20.

n “Wild About Manners” author Lorraine Loria and illustrator Bonnie Spino, will be on hand for a children’s story hour at 10 a.m., Monday, July 15.

Stander to speak

THOMPSONVILLE — Local mystery author Aaron Stander will speak about writing his Ray Elkins mystery series at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 25 at Betsie Valley District Library.

He’ll talk about writing a series, answer questions, and read from his upcoming book, “Death in a Summer Colony.”
