Live banjo concert

GRAYLING — Bluegrass banjo picker Barry “Tiger” Van Guilder will perform at the Crawford County Senior Center, 308 Lawndale.

The free concert will start at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 10. Donations will be accepted. The public is welcome and no reservations are required.

Garden classes

TRAVERSE CITY — Pine Hill Village Gardens is offering a series of free “Spring Fever Reliever” garden classes in April.

Classes meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, April 10, 17 and 24, and 11 a.m. Saturdays, April 13, 20 and 27 at Pine Hill, 1126 Carver Street behind Save A Lot. Topics are “Earth Friendly Veggie Gardening” April 10 and 13; “Gardening Apps for Everyone” April 17 and 20; and “Container Planting Planning” April 24 and 27.

‘Spies in Petticoats’

BENZONIA — “Spies in Petticoats During the Civil War” will be presented Thursday, April 11, as part of the Benzonia Academy Lecture Series.

The program features the story of five women who spied for either the North or South during the Civil War. It will be presented by members of the Benzie Area Women’s History Project and commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. The program starts at 4 p.m. at Mills Community House, 891 U.S. 31. Refreshments and music by the Song Spinners and Mary Anne Rivers will follow.

Students perform

LELAND — The Leelanau Community Cultural Center will sponsor a performance by student musicians in Interlochen Arts Academy’s newest music program.

The program allows young musicians to draw on a wide range of musical expertise at Interlochen to create their own personal style while developing skills in melody, harmony, arranging and lyric-writing.

IAA student singer/songwriters will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, April 12, at the Old Art Building. Donations are appreciated; student admission is free. For details, visit
