Police ID student fatally struck by car

WALKER — Police have identified a 19-year-old Trenton woman who was struck and killed while attempting to cross a road in west Michigan.

Police say Grand Valley State University student Jessie Winterholler was with two college students about 7 p.m. Friday, when a verbal argument ensued and the driver pulled off the road on Nolan Avenue at Three Mile Road.

Police said one of the females got out of the vehicle and walked away. Winterholler left the vehicle to go after her friend and was fatally struck by a westbound driver.

Police said the vehicle was driven by a 49-year-old Holland woman, who was released.

Officers at the scene tell Winterholler was wearing dark clothing. They say neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Ford's daughter speaks at GVSU

GRAND RAPIDS — The daughter of the late President Gerald Ford will speak at Grand Valley State University's graduation ceremonies in Grand Rapids.

The university says that Susan Ford Bales will give an address Saturday at Van Andel Arena. It says about 1,000 students are participating in the commencement.

The daughter of Gerald and Betty Ford is a trustee for the Gerald R. Ford Historical Legacy Trust and the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation. She's also a global ambassador for efforts against breast cancer by the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Judge on leave after affair claims

DETROIT — A Detroit judge recently reprimanded by the Michigan Supreme Court for misconduct has been placed on leave after a TV station said he had a relationship with a woman while her child-support case was pending in his court.

Wayne County's chief judge, Virgil Smith, told The Detroit News that Judge Wade McCree was placed on leave Friday. Geniene La'Shay Mott earlier told WJBK-TV that McCree discussed strategies with her in a child-support case. She was seeking money from a former boyfriend.

Mott told the TV station that she had sex "very often" with the judge in his office and now is pregnant with his child. McCree won't comment.

In October, McCree was reprimanded by the state Supreme Court after sending a shirtless photo of himself to a female court employee.

Fire destroys home park building

EGELSTON TOWNSHIP — Authorities say a fire that swept through a building at a west Michigan mobile home park has left it in ruins.

Egelston Township Deputy Fire Chief Dan Willea tells that by the time firefighters arrived at the scene about 4 a.m. Saturday, the old clubhouse that recently housed a laundry room, storage area and office space, was engulfed in flames.

Willea says no one was inside the building at the time and no injuries were reported.

The fire did not spread to any other buildings, since the structure stood alone near the entrance.

No cause has been determined.

Man who tried to kiss man stabbed multiple times FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Flint authorities say a man who was repeatedly stabbed by another man he tried to kiss remains in critical condition.

Police say the victim picked up a man around 5 a.m. Friday on Dort Highway, and the two drove to the victim's nearby hotel room. ( reports the victim told police the suspect was hitting him. When the victim tried to kiss the suspect, he produced a sharp object and began stabbing the victim.

The victim told police he believes the suspect fled south on Dort Highway.

No further details were released.
