TRAVERSE CITY — Robert D. Jacobson passed away peacefully at his home in Traverse City on Jan. 12, 2013, just 14 days shy of his 89th birthday.
Born in Evanston, Ill., and growing up in Grand Rapids, Bob's passion for The West, the mountains and skiing took him and his family to Durango, Colo., where he and his wife of 64 years shared adventures in the guest ranching business at Wilderness Trails, real estate, a Navajo Indian Trading Post and the first ski school at Purgatory.
He retired in the '90s to Traverse City, where he enjoyed tennis and golf, but always traveling out to Durango to teach skiing .
He is survived by his wife, Alice; son, Eric; daughter, Julie; grandsons, Mike (wife, Nicole), Liam and Justin; great-granddaughters, Abby and Lizzy; daughter-in-law, Linda; son-in-law, Rob; along with extended family of Doug, Brenda and Amanda.
A celebration of life will take place at Crystal Lake in the summer.
