TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Christian’s Jon Tuck rolled a six-game total of 1280 Saturday to capture the boys Division 4 individual regional at Lucky Jacks.
Whittemore-Prescott’s Cody Clough placed second, 75 pins back at 1205.
The top 10 bowlers qualified for the state finals March 2 at Sunnybrook Lanes in Sterling Heights.
Christian had a second bowler advance, Brett Bultsma. He placed seventh with a 1082.
No area girls qualified.
Tuck, meanwhile, had an 11-pin lead on Clough after three games before pulling away. He rolled games of 195, 204, 247, 195, 214 and 225.
Bultsma finished with scores of 159, 213, 140, 247, 124 and 199. His final game, the 199, enabled him to surge into seventh and secure a qualifying berth.
Several area bowlers just missed the cut. Austin Wolfgram of Elk Rapids was 11th with a 1057, three pins out of 10th. Wolfgram made a late charge with a 191 in his final game. He put himself in a hole with a 128 in his fifth game. Bellaire’s Nicholas Betten and Christian’s Paul Bump were right behind at 1045 and 1042.
Elk Rapids’ Kirk May and Jacob Fedrigon came in 14th and 15th, respectively, with scores of 1039 and 1037.
Ashley Budnik of Rogers City won the girls individual regional with a 1080, seven pins better than Oscoda’s Paige Huebel. Budnik trailed by six pins entering the final game.
The top area finisher was Bellaire’s Destiny Zoulek, who placed 14th with a 878. Teammate Kristen Schlegel was 16th with a 864. Glen Lake’s Annie Horn came in 20th at 834.
Glen Lake hosted the regional.
