Prep Basketball Roundup: Glen Lake wraps conference title

---- — MESICK — Glen Lake wrapped up an outright Northwest Conference basketball title Saturday with a 63-34 win over Mesick.

The Lakers are 12-1 in conference play, 16-2 overall.

“It’s fun to win it outright,” Lakers coach Todd Hazelton said. “The guys have put a lot into this (season). It’s well deserved for them.”

Glen Lake last won the league in 2011.

Michael O’Brien paced the Lakers with 17 points. Carter Lee added 13 and Curtis Bunek 10.

Glen Lake plays St. Francis on Tuesday and then closes out the regular season with Benzie Central on Thursday.

TC Central 43

Ogemaw Heights 38

Traverse City Central won its first Big North Conference road game of the season with a 43-38 triumph at Ogemaw Heights.

The Trojans finished 4-8 in the league. They are 5-14 overall heading into this week’s Class A district.

Central led at the quarter breaks at Ogemaw 10-7, 22-17, 29-26. The Trojans hit 20 of 29 free throws.

Tyler Rawlings led the attack with 10 points. Madi Bankey chipped in nine.

Shelby Killinger netted 17 for the Falcons (3-17, 0-12).

Central won the JV game 44-34 as Kelsey Acton scored 10. The Trojans ended at 13-6.

The freshman team finished 18-1 with a 48-26 victory. Sierra Fraser netted 11 points and Abigail Green 10.

 

Bellaire 62

LL St Mary 55

Bellaire rallied from a five-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter for a 62-55 non-league win over Lake Leelanau St. Mary.

The Eagles, who finished the regular season 13-7, trailed 40-35 after three quarters.

Madelyn Balon paced Bellaire with 20 points, four steals and four assists. Miranda Washburn added 19 points and 10 rebounds. Leighton Koepke also hit double figures with 12 points. She was perfect on three 3-point attempts.

Rachael Thon led St. Mary with 20 points.

TC Bulldogs 49

HEA Firebirds 36

The Traverse City Bulldogs Athletic Association advanced to the state homeschool championship game with a 49-36 win over the HEA Firebirds.

The game was tied 20-20 at half.

Casie Plamondon led the Bulldogs (19-2) with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Molly Plamondon added 13 points and Sarah Plamondon 11.

The state final is next Saturday in Carson City.
