Chamber's annual celebration

The annual celebration of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce will take place Jan. 24 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Acme.

The event will draw up to 1,200 area business owners, employees, elected officials and other community members. It will again feature the open-floor format introduced in 2013.

The annual celebration is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Food and beverage stations will be open throughout the evening. The half-hour program will include presentation of the chamber’s annual Distinguished Service Award. It’s an honor presented by the chamber annually since 1929 to recognize civic contributions and service to the community. Last year’s recipient was Terry Berden, CEO of Great Lakes Stainless Inc. in Traverse City.

Admission is $100 for Chamber members, and there’s a “Business Bundle” special of 10 tickets for $900. Tickets are $150 for non-members. You can register by visiting the chamber’s website at

The event is preceded by a reception for the Chamber’s Young Professionals starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Resort’s Aerie lounge.

Biz after hours

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce will hold January Business After Hours from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Centre Ice Arena. Co-sponsors are Mancino's Pizza and Grinders, Fit for You Health Club.

Jolly Pumpkin and Bowers Harbor Winery will provide complimentary beer and wine.

Chamber of Commerce members and their associates attend for free. Cost for non-members is $15 at the door.

Video workshop

TRAVERSE CITY — NorthSky will host a workshop with public-access UpNorth Media Center's program director, Morgan Burke-Beyers and station manager, Matt Cowall, to walk participants through ways to add video to a nonprofit organization's toolbox. The program will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23 at Northwestern Michigan College University Center.

The fee is $12. Participants are invited to bring a lunch. Registration is required by contacting or calling 929-3934.
