Forum: Give the gift of giving in the New Year

You may have recently seen announcements of grant awards to benefit a wide variety of organizations, programs, and projects in communities throughout our region. Both your Community Foundation and Rotary Charities begin this season of giving, with giving.

The Community Foundation and Rotary Charities each play a role in facilitating positive community impact with a common goal of enriching the quality of life in our region. Your Community Foundation is a local giving partner and we know that to make a difference takes the generosity of many donors with gifts both large and small. We also know that to make a difference takes the wholehearted commitment of the nonprofit organizations that are delivering critical and valuable programs and services every day, in every corner of our region.

Each year at this time we often give attention to somehow getting our loved ones and friends the “perfect gift” that will really tell them we are thinking of them and one they will appreciate and remember throughout the year and beyond. As you think about giving this season to your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbors, we at the Community Foundation hope that charitable giving is also on your list.

Food pantries are striving to keep their shelves full, health clinics are aiming to provide basic medical care, senior services agencies are working to help seniors keep their heat on through the winter months, educators are providing a meaningful and beneficial school experience to our communities’ youth, and so many more charitable agencies are making a positive impact on quality of life in our region.

We want to thank all of those who have not only been a part of the Community Foundation’s work this year, but have played a significant role in making it possible. As a local giving partner, your Community Foundation has the privilege of celebrating local philanthropy every day. Whether it’s giving of time, talent, or treasure - or often some combination of these - the people of our local communities are exceptionally giving.
