TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Hounds opened up a 9-1 lead midway through the third period and ended up with a 10-2 victory over the Bloomington Jr. Blaze on Saturday.
After falling behind 1-0 just two and a half minutes into the game, the Hounds went on a scoring binge, scoring four times before the end of the first period, than tacking on four more unanswered scores in the second period.
Scott Luca had a hat trick to lead the Hounds, scoring one goal in each period. Vaughn Clouston tacked on two scores. Jacob Gillis, Kevin Miloser, Bobby Schumacher and Premysl Synek had the other Hounds’ goals.
Josh Smith led Traverse City with four assists. Grant McCormack added two assists, while individual assists went to Miloser, Kenneth Simmons Jr., Alexander Grizzel, Clouston, Luca, Synek and Alex DeVries.
Peter Carlin scored both of Bloomington’s goals.
The win was Traverse City’s second of the weekend over the Blaze, following Friday’s 5-2 win.
Bryce Goulah made 19 saves for the Hounds (26-4-1-2), winning his fourth game in goal in as many starts. The Blaze (12-18-1-0) used a pair of goalies with Kent Nusbaum making 22 saves and Vladyslav Plakhotnyi 11.
The two teams wrap up their weekend series today at 1 p.m.
