Prep Sports Roundup: Reps upend Tri-Valley Titans

TRAVERSE CITY — Chase Joppich scored two goals and assisted on a third as the Bay Reps upended the Tri-Valley Titans 5-1 Saturday night at Centre ICE.

Joppich tallied off assists from Andrew Dzierwa and Gavin Uitvlugt in a 1-1 first period. The Reps took the lead for good on a R.J. Deneweth score in the second period. Zach Bargy and Uitvlugt assisted.

The Reps broke it open with three unanswered goals in the third. Josh Hill, Dzierwa and Joppich lit the lamp. Deneweth assisted on the Hill goal. Joppich set up Dzierwa. Then Dzierwa assisted Joppich.

“We got better as the game went on,” Reps coach Todd Spaulding said.

Jay Jones had 12 saves in goal.

The Reps, 2-2, play Sault Ste. Marie in a tournament downstate next weekend.

BOYS HOOPS

Grayling 67

Kingsley 60

Down nine to start the fourth quarter, Grayling rallied for 67-60 win over Kingsley in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.

Kingsley had used a 26-15 third quarter to build a 43-34 lead.

Tyler McClanahan led the Vikings with 18 points. Justice Junttila added 13.

Jarid Lueck and Tyler Newell scored 18 apiece for the Stags, who face Suttons Bay on Tuesday. Stacy Almquist chipped in 11.

Both teams struggled at the free throw line. Kingsley was 18 of 34, Grayling 15 of 30.

Charlevoix 60

Leland 40

Charlevoix opened a 37-15 lead at half en route to a 60-40 win over Leland in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.

Nate Moon scored 11 points and Shane Sutherland 10 for the Rayders (1-2). Tyler Leveque netted 10 for Leland.

Charlevoix travels to Elk Rapids on Tuesday in a Lake Michigan Conference opener.

Suttons Bay 53

Harbor Springs 36

Aaron Orban’s 14 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and four blocks led Suttons Bay to a 53-36 win over Harbor Springs in the Northwest-Lake Michigan Challenge.

Devin Capron added 11 points for the 1-1 Norsemen.

Pete Kelbel netted 12 points and Jack Carter 10 for the Rams.
