Petoskey falls in D2 soccer title game

Northmen shut out 3-0 by Unity Christian

EAST KENTWOOD — Petoskey's bid to win its second Division 2 state title in a five-year span came up short Saturday.

The Northmen (18-8-2) fell to Hudsonville Unity Christian 3-0, Petoskey's third state championship appearance in five years.

The Crusaders (25-2) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal by Michael Wilks just 1:03 into the game. Unity Christian added second-half scores by Joe Honderd in the second half's fifth minute and Jake Love with 6:14 remaining.

Petoskey goalies Drew Smith made seven saves.
