Trafficking charges filed in Kalkaska motel room drug arrest

KALKASKA — Suspects who face drug trafficking charges after a Kalkaska motel room drug bust only recently came to the area, authorities said.

Traverse Narcotics Team Detective Lt. Daniel King said investigators found about 8 grams of heroin, 9.7 grams of crack cocaine and 4.9 grams of powder cocaine in the room. TNT officers and Kalkaska County sheriff’s deputies executed the early Wednesday morning search warrant.

The room’s occupants — Penny Good-Looking Davis, 21, of Hamtramck, and Dwight Michelle Seahorn, 53, of Detroit — were arraigned in 87th District Court on multiple charges, including three felony counts of possession with intent to deliver and conspiracy to sell.

Seahorn could face life imprisonment from a habitual offender enhancement. This would be his fourth offense if convicted.

King said the suspects seem to have only been in the Kalkaska area for less than a day. He said the room was filled with bags, scales and scissors that indicate the drugs were about to be packaged for sale.

“We believe it was ready to be broken into and to be sold,” he said.

A third suspect, Mitchell Lee Bartlett, 24, of East Jordan, was arrested during the course of the investigation and was not in the motel room when the search warrant was executed. Bartlett is charged with drug possession and driving on a suspended license. He was released from custody Wednesday on a $20,000 cash surety bond.

Kalkaska County Sheriff Dave Israel said the area has recently seen an uptick in heroin use.

“Heroin is back with a vengeance,” he said. “The last couple years it’s really made a reappearance.”

Davis and Seahorn were being held Thursday in Kalkaska County Jail on $250,000 and $500,000 cash surety bonds, respectively.
