Recognition
-- The Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention received the Public Health Community Achievement Award during Michigan's Premier Public Health Conference at the Grand Traverse Resort. Kathleen Oberst presented the award to ACHT president and co-founder Dee Lynch. The organization was founded by Lynch and Jane VanEtten in 2004.
-- The Conservation Resource Alliance honored four community leaders for their outstanding contributions to protecting the world-class waterways, forests, and wildlife resources in northern Michigan. Outstanding Business Partner: Kelly Miller, President, Miller & Miller, Traverse City; Outstanding Wild Link Partner: Tom Waurzyniak, Kingsley area landowner; Outstanding River Care Partner: Wayne Andersen, Chairman, Big Sable Watershed Restoration Committee, Ludington; Outstanding Agency Partner: Rick Westerhof, Fish Biologist, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Green Bay National Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office.
-- Two northern Michigan food producers will be among the exhibitors at the Making it in Michigan Conference on Nov. 11 at the Lansing Center in downtown Lansing. Lynda Herkner of Herkner's Foods will display cherry toppings, while Perry Harmon of Way North Foods LLC will display gourmet biscotti. The third annual trade show will feature 70 Michigan-made local food products.

-- Donald J. Brady has joined Inland Seas Engineering, Inc., as an Environmental and Geotechnical Project Manager. A licensed professional engineer, he specializes in developing remediation solutions for contaminated sites, site assessment and environmental compliance.
-- Kent Fowler of Benzonia has joined Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors as a full-time sales associate working out of the Benzonia office.
-- Three local men were sworn in to the Michigan State Bar at the Robert P. Griffin Hall of Justice. Matthew L. Boyd, Adam G. Banton, and Wesley J. Lamey were sworn in by Judge David L. Stowe.
-- Chase bank hired Barbara Sealey as manager for its downtown Traverse City branch at 250 E. Front St. She previously worked as a branch manager for Wells Fargo bank in Alaska and for Citizens and National City bank in Alpena.
-- Gretchen Curtis is the new branch manager for Northwestern Bank's two offices in Cadillac, She has more than 22 years of banking experience with a background in consumer and mortgage lending. The Traverse City-based bank operates 27 offices in northern Michigan.
New Web site
-- Phil's on Front, a downtown Traverse City restaurant and chocolate bar owned and operated by chef Phil Murray, has launched its new Web site, www.philsonfront.com. The site offers a peek at typical daily menus, as well as a wine and specialty cocktails list, a profile of Chef Phil, and links to his affiliated businesses, Chocolate Exotica and Phil's on Front Catering.
Expansion
-- The West Shore Community College Board of Trustees held a groundbreaking ceremony recently in the Arts and Sciences Center to kick-off the latest construction project on the campus. The expansion and renovation of the Arts and Science Center, formerly known as the Media Center, is expected to be completed before the fall 2010 semester.
Dividend
-- Honor Bancorp, Inc. declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.10 per share payable to shareholders on record on Oct. 19, 2009, and the dividend was paid Oct. 30. The Honor State Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of Honor Bancorp Inc., and operates bank branches in four area counties.

-- Several members of northern Michigan's oil and gas industry were recently named to 2-year terms on board of directors for the Michigan Oil and Gas Association. They include Thomas Pangborn of Savoy Exploration in Traverse City, Kelly Miller of Eagle Investments in Traverse City, Phillip Koro of Atlas Oil & Gas Co. in Traverse City, Michael Coy of O.I.L. Energy in Traverse City, Robert Boeve of Jordan Exploration in Traverse City and Randall Parsons of Advanced Energy Services in South Boardman. Their new terms begin Jan. 1.
