Brother accused of couple's death in 1987

PARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A western Michigan man has been charged in the fatal shooting of an Ottawa County couple more than 25 years ago.

Authorities say Ryan Wyngarden is the brother of one of the victims, Gail Brink. She and husband Rick Brink were killed at their Park Township home in November 1987.

The 50-year-old Wyngarden was denied bail Monday and sent back to the Ottawa County jail. He told the judge he'd accept a court-appointed lawyer.

Sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett said information about Wyngarden "came to the forefront" in the last few months. Investigators won't say why they finally settled on the Zeeland resident, but two detectives conducted approximately 200 interviews.

Park Township is near Lake Michigan, 35 miles southwest of Grand Rapids.
