Local woman goes missing in Houghton

HOUGHTON — Authorities in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula are looking for a 55-year-old woman who has been missing since the weekend.

WLUC-TV reports Valerie Sue Palmer of Harbor Springs was visiting friends in the Houghton area and last was seen Saturday night.

The Daily Mining Gazette of Houghton reports Palmer’s belongings were found Sunday in a boat in Torch Bay. Police say the boat didn’t belong to her.

The U.S. Coast Guard searched for her on the water and others have been on foot searching the Houghton area.

Authorities are seeking tips from the public.
