Ohio man says wolves killed dogs

MARQUETTE — An Ohio man says his beagles were killed by wolves last month in Chippewa County and he won’t return to the Upper Peninsula to train dogs.

Jim McGuire of Amanda, Ohio, said he does not want to risk the lives of any more dogs after the attack that occurred on Aug. 6. He and his friends have trained hunting beagles for 20 years in the Hiawatha National Forest.

He says nine beagles were killed.

DNR officials recently released a report on the incident to The Mining Journal. They say they continue to look into it.

Michigan plans to hold a wolf hunt this fall that allows killing up to 43 gray wolves, following their removal from the federal endangered species list.
