DETROIT — Detroit police said Friday they have made one arrest in the slayings of three people at an abandoned home that a relative said was witnessed by a 5-year-old girl.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens said in an email that additional information about the arrest wasn’t being immediately released.
Wayne County Medical Examiner’s office spokeswoman Sarah Bazzi said officials are awaiting positive identification from family members and will complete the autopsies before releasing more information. Police have said the victims were ages 20, 24 and 25.
Kenyetta Hunt, who said she was related to a man found dead inside the house, told reporters the girl saw a man fatally shoot her mother and two others inside the home on the city’s northwest side, and then apparently spent the night with the bodies and a surviving baby.
Neighbors reported hearing gunshots Wednesday night at or near the house, which they said was being used by squatters. The child was found inside Thursday morning.
“She’s going to be traumatized for the rest of her life after seeing her mom get killed,” Hunt, a relative of the one of the victims, told The Detroit News on Thursday. “She is going to need a lot of family around her.”
