---- — LANSING (AP) — State officials have released the final version of an updated plan for dealing with aquatic invasive species in Michigan.

The Department of Environmental Quality says the plan includes new steps while continuing existing efforts. The goals are to prevent introduction of new invasive species into the state’s waters, to prevent those already here from spreading, to limit their effects, and to detect and respond to new invaders.

Several state departments developed the plan, with input from an advisory council with members from government, industry and environmental groups. Federal grants are helping to carry it out.

Some projects are designed to prevent an invasion by Asian carp. Others focus on invasive plants. There are also programs to educate industries, boaters and landowners.
