Ishpeming police said one of the women was able to get a cellphone and call 911, and officers found the women duct-taped to support posts in the basement of a business July 2.

Forty-three-year-old Jason Sadowski and 65-year-old Charles Cope are charged with torture and kidnapping. Sadowski also is charged with criminal sexual conduct and solicitation to murder.

The Mining Journal of Marquette said the 44- and 30-year-old women met Sadowski at a bar and agreed to accompany him.

MARESNISCO TOWNSHIP — State police said two inmates have been charged with second-degree murder in the fatal beating of a third prisoner at the Ojibway Correctional Facility in the western Upper Peninsula.

Randolph Conner died Jan. 9 of a brain injury. The prison is in Gogebic County’s Marenisco Township, 20 miles east-southeast of Ironwood.

State police Detective Sgt. Russell Larson told the Mining Journal of Marquette that 25-year-old Delorean S. Henderson and 32-year-old Michael Smith were arraigned in Gogebic County District Court.

Larson said the Henderson and Smith attacked Conner in a common area of the prison. The detective isn’t commenting on a motive for the attack, which didn’t involve weapons.

The suspects are being held at the Baraga Correctional Facility and return to court July 29 for a preliminary examination.
