---- — ALLENDALE (AP) — Tuition at Grand Valley State University will increase $188 per semester in the coming academic year.
Trustees at the West Michigan school in Allendale approved the 3.73 percent hike Friday in the 2014 fiscal year budget. The increase brings annual tuition for full-time, in-state undergraduates to $10,454.
Officials say the increase is one of the school’s smallest during the past 20 years and keeps Grand Valley State’s tuition in the lower half of Michigan universities. Tuition went up last year by 3.7 percent.
State support is down $11 million. Grand Valley State is receiving $503 less per student from the state than it got five years ago.
The school is expected to receive state funding of $55.4 million plus a one-time state grant of $2.3 million.
