---- — SAGINAW (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a $1.5 million contract for dredging the Saginaw River in the Bay City and Saginaw areas.
The corps announced Monday that Luedtke Engineering Co., of Frankfort, will clear the river for shipping. The dredging sites are in the Sixth Street turning basin in Saginaw and upstream from the Liberty Bridge in Bay City.
The corps said heavy spring rains caused rapid silting in the turning basin, reducing its depth from 20 feet to about 12 feet.
