County trains teachers to handle gun threats

WATERFORD TOWNSHIP — Suburban Detroit's Oakland County is holding two gun-violence response training sessions for hundreds of teachers and school staff in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting.

The Oakland County Homeland Security Division, sheriff's department and intermediate school district are sponsoring the sessions. The county says there is room for 120 people in each of two "active shooter" training sessions Feb. 15.

The 2{-hour sessions are at the Oakland Schools Building in Waterford Township. The county recommends that participants complete a 45-minute online training program beforehand.
