Texas man makes stop during dialysis tour

DETROIT (AP) -- A Texas man in the midst of a five-month trip across the country in his RV is doing something on his journey that most people heading out on a road trip don't.

Harvey Wells is traveling with a portable hemodialysis machine, which allows the 57-year-old from Euless, Texas, to do treatments himself when and where he wants.

The machine doesn't require special water hookups and is powered by a standard electrical outlet, so Wells can dialyze in his hotel, at a relative's house or at a campsite.

He's visiting local dialysis centers to share his experience with other kidney disease patients.

He was in Eastpointe on Monday and plans to stop at a dialysis center in Detroit on Tuesday.
