Fugitive mom back in Michigan

LANSING -- A suburban housewife arrested near San Diego 32 years after she escaped from a Detroit-area prison is back in Michigan to serve out at least 51/2 years on heroin charges.

Susan LeFevre arrived at the Robert Scott Correctional Facility in Northville Township about 2 p.m. Tuesday, six days after she left a California detention facility. The prison is about 20 miles west of Detroit.

The 53-year-old mother of three was arrested April 24 outside her home in an affluent area near San Diego. LeFevre's Grand Rapids attorney, Paul Denenfeld, has said he plans to ask Gov. Jennifer Granholm for clemency so she can avoid time behind bars. A phone message seeking comment was left Tuesday for Denenfeld.
