Ice Cream Mile returns on Aug. 28
TRAVERSE CITY — The Moomer's Ice Cream Mile running and eating event returns after a three-year hiatus, and will be held Aug. 28 at the Traverse City Central High School Track.
In the event, participants race to see who can be the first to both eat a pint of ice cream, plus run a mile (four laps) on the track.
The event offers a series of race categories, including high school, middle school, grades 3-5, open, and a half pint event for kids under grade 3. The event requires pre-registration prior to Aug. 23, with registration online https://events.bytepro.net/The2012AnnualIceCreamMile.
Entry forms are also available at Moomer's, and Running Fit in Traverse City. Proceeds benefit the Traverse City Central Track and Field Boosters.
Breakers holding swim evaluations
TRAVERSE CITY — Swimmers ages 5-18 can come be evaluated for the fall openings on the Traverse City Swim Club short course.
All levels and abilities are welcome. There is no cost for the evaluations.
The evaluation of swimmers will be held at the Civic Center Easling Pool, 6-7 p.m. on Sept. 4, 5 or 6. Swimmers who make the team will be placed in one of the eight level groups with openings. There is no need to reserve a spot.

Crosby steps down as Bulldogs coach
TRAVERSE CITY — Kris Crosby has stepped down as coach of the Traverse City Bulldogs homeschool basketball team.
Crosby had a 236-89 record in 14 seasons with the Bulldogs varsity, winning five homeschool state championships and advancing to the title game five other times, as well as 11 league crowns.
The Bulldogs finished in the top 20 nationally among homeschool teams in each of the last four campaigns.
