TRAVERSE CITY — Jake Sabol improved to 4-0 on the season, throwing his second complete game of the season in a 1-0 Beach Bums victory over Lake Erie on Wednesday at Wuerfel Park.
Sabol, who has a miniscule 0.30 earned run average in four starts this season, scattered five hits, walked one and struck out four.
Traverse City (10-7) gave Sabol all the run support he would need when it plated the game’s only run of the night in the fourth inning on a Taylor Wrenn lead-off homer. Wrenn led the Beach Bums with two hits. Marcus Nidiffer and Matt Howard had the other two Traverse City hits.
Alex Kaminsky pitched well for Lake Erie (6-11) but took the loss, scattering four hits over seven innings with four walks and five strikeouts. Jeff Wellander pitched the eighth for the Crushers, striking out one.
Anderson Hidalgo had two hits for Lake Erie, including a double in the second inning.
It was the Beach Bums’ third straight win and it moved them to within a game-and-a-half of first place Evansville in the East Division. Lake Erie lost for the fourth consecutive game and fell into last place in the East.
The two teams finish their three-game series at Wuerfel Park tonight at 7:05 p.m.
