BROOKLYN — St. Francis's Holly Bullough was third overall to lead the Gladiators to an eighth-place finish in the Division 4 cross country state finals on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.
Erin McDonnell took 39th for the Glads in 20:54, Emily Gallagher was 40th (20:56), Annie Lyman was 79th (21:57) and Blair Dzierwa was 98th (22:42).
Bear Lake's girls finished third and the boys were fourth for a stellar day for both squads.
Alycia Peterson led the Lakers with a 21st-place finish in 20:33, while John Girven led the boys with a 10th-place finish in 16:58. The other scorers for Bear Lake's girls were: McKaya Groenwald (27th, 20:44); Keena Gilbert (30th, 20:47); Kelly Babcock (33rd, 20:50); and Faith Moerdyk (47th, 21:08). The other scorers for the boys were: Jordan Anderson (13th, 17:01); John Schoedel (22nd, 17:19); Shane Peterson (39th, 17:51); and Jared Blair (75th, 18:32).
Grand Traverse Academy's girls, led by the 16th-place finish of Abby Fifarek (20:07) placed 12th. The Mustangs also had Emma Fifarek in 41st (20:56); Autumn Amormino in 63rd (21:30); Molly Ritsema in 85th (22:14); and Alyssa Cullen in 134th (24:10). The GTA boys were 20th, with Dallas Hanna posting a 29th-place time of 17:41. Also contributing for the Mustangs were: Aaron Kostrzewa (35th, 17:46); Christian Turner (129th, 19:42); Sergei Kelley (134th, 19:55); and Dan Lock (144th, 20:19).
Manton's boys team was 17th and Boyne Falls' boys were 24th. Johannesburg-Lewiston's girls took 24th.
Individually, East Jordan's Josh Wojan took second (16:33) and Kayla Keane was fifth (19:18). Also earning individual all-state honors were: Ellsworth's Winter Romeyn (9th, 16:55); Bellaire's Isabella Tremonti (8th, 19:24); Glen Lake's Kaitlin Grigg (23rd, 20:01); and Gaylord St. Mary's Averi Bebble (24th, 20:01).
