TC West, St. Francis, other area teams advance

Several area volleyball teams advanced to play for regional titles after winning semifinal matches tonight.

In Class A, Traverse City West defeated Midland Dow 3-1 (16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17). The Titans were paced by Anna O'Hara and Katie Placek, who each had 21 kills.

Traverse City St. Francis carried out a thrilling comeback in its 3-2 win over rival Boyne City in Class C action. The Gladiators lost the first two sets before winning the final three (23-25, 14-25, 25-18, 25-23, 15-12).

In Class D, No. 6 Leland finished off Bear Lake, 3-1, and will face Bellaire for the regional title. Bellaire won its semifinal match against Au Gres-Sims, 3-2.

In Class B, No. 7 Cadillac swept Houghton 3-0.

Regional championship games will be played Thursday.
