FLORENCE, Ky. — Jake Sabol made two mistakes Tuesday and it cost him.
Junior Arroyo homered to lead off the bottom of the first for the Freedom, and then David Harris belted a two-run shot in the fourth as Florence went on for a 4-3 Frontier League win over the Traverse City Beach Bums.
It was first setback in five decisions for Sabol, who surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits in seven innings. Florence scored what proved to be the game-winning run in the eighth on a walk, single and error.
Trailing 3-0 in the top of the seventh, the Beach Bums loaded the bases on singles by Chase Burch, Marcus Nidiffer, and Zach Kometani. Sean Gusrang followed by hitting a ball to the third base side of the mound. Freedom pitcher Dan Jensen picked it up, but threw it away allowing Burch and Nidiffer to score.
Traverse City had runners on first and third with one out in the eighth, but the Freedom pulled off a double play to end that threat.
An RBI single by Jeremy Banks in the ninth accounted for the Beach Bums final run. Traverse City (11-11) stranded two runners in the inning.
Jensen (3-1) picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs over seven innings.
Taylor Wrenn and Kometani had multi-hit games for Traverse City. Wrenn extended his hitting streak to 15 contests.
