Prep Basketball Roundup: Frankfort bests Sabers

FRANKFORT — Frankfort set the stage for its upcoming showdown with Glen Lake by beating Manistee Catholic 39-26 in a non-league basketball game.

The Panthers, ranked No. 6 in Class D, are now 9-0 overall. They'll host the once-beaten Lakers on Thursday.

"This will be one of the biggest basketball games to be played here in awhile," Frankfort coach Reggie Manville said. "Glen Lake is playing well. They're big, they're physical."

The Panthers jumped out to a 28-11 halftime lead Monday over Manistee Catholic, which fell to 6-3.

David Loney registered a double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds for Frankfort. Brandon Schaub added 11 points.

Andrew Perry's seven points paced the Sabers, whose top player Zack Bialik has been bothered by an ankle injury. Ben Feliczak pulled down six rebounds for the Sabers, who travel to Onekama on Wednesday.

Midland     45 TC West     29

Indiana recruit Jess Walter scored 19 points as Midland topped Traverse City West 45-29 in a non-league game.

The Chemics led 29-10 at half.

Kiley Kreple paced the Titans (4-8) with 11 points. Kelsey Boudjalis pulled down nine rebounds. The Titans played without Katie Placek.

West lost the JV game 36-31. Kalyn Havens and Carley Drzewiecki scored nine points apiece for the Titans, who host Ogemaw Heights on Thursday.

Petoskey     59 Gaylord     46

Petoskey used the one-two punch of Megan Tompkins and Kelsey Ance to KO Gaylord 59-46 in a Big North Conference game.

Tompkins finished with 19 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks for the Northmen (10-2, 6-1). Ance added 18 points, six rebounds and six assists.

McKenzie Edwards paced Gaylord with 21 points.

Buckley     56 Suttons Bay     40

Marlee Harris scored 22 points, hitting 10 of 12 free throw attempts, to power Buckley to a 56-40 Northwest Conference win over Suttons Bay.

Clarice Pahl added 10 points for the Bears. Bedoskah Stonefish had 12 points and Hannah Steed 10 for Suttons Bay (1-9), which is at Grand Traverse Academy on Wednesday.
