SWARTZ CREEK — Jacob Chappell won the 135-pound weight class at the Swartz Creek Invitational to lead seven Frankfort wrestling placers Saturday.

Brandon Coxe (130) and Brendon Kelly (125) each placed second, while Hunter Bradley (103), Levi Hubbard (130), Kyle Jensen (152) and Kevin Jensen (160) each took third.

The Panthers travel Wednesday to Pine River for a double dual meet with the hosts and Benzie Central.

Priante leads West at Sag. Heritage

Vincent Priante posted a 4-1 record in the 103-pound weight class to lead Traverse City West at the Saginaw Heritage Invitational.

Caleb Kase (140) and Zac Provost (145) were both 3-2, while Ryan Drake (189), Josh Wheaton (171), Caleb Harris (112) and Chad Pipkins racked up two wins each.

West faces off with Gaylord and Ogemaw Heights in a double dual Wednesday at TC Central.

TC Central participates at Pine River

Traverse City Central had three wrestlers post wins in the Pine River Invitational.

Jacob Leonard (130 pounds), Andre Passos (152) and Joab Harrington (215) each had one win the team tourney.

The Trojans return to action Wednesday, hosting Ogemaw Heights, Gaylord and TC West in a Big North Conference quad meet.

West JV grapplers place at Petoskey

John-Paul Bullock won the 130-pound weight class at the Petoskey JV Invitational to lead Traverse City West's contingent.

Brandon Barth was second at 171 pounds, while Brad Squires (103) and Mike Lambert (130) were third and Jonah Tannis (189) was fourth.

GIRLS HOOPS

Gaylord St. Mary     60 Inland Lakes     30

Mary Spyhalski led Gaylord St. Mary with 20 points in a 60-30 Ski Valley Conference victory over Inland Lakes.

Christina Smith added 13 points for the Snowbirds (6-2, 5-1 SVC).

Sarah Bischoff paced Inland Lakes with 10 points.

Division standings start to take shape

In both girls and boys III/IV Divisions the standings started to take shape as teams squared off Saturday in the Great Northwest Bowling Conference.

Glen Lake stayed unbeaten in conference play (4-0) by beating Benzie (1-2) 26-4. The match was tight with a 6-4 Laker lead after Baker games, but the Lakers swept the individual points to secure the win.

Bellaire (3-1) stayed right behind Glen Lake by beating Kingsley (1-3) 17-13. Destiny Zoulek led The Eagles in the win with a 170 game.

In the boys III/IV Division Traverse City Christian Maroon moved to 5-0 by beating their own White Team (1-4) 28-2. Jon Tuck led both teams with a 409 two-game series. Aaron Kostrzewa rolled a 205 game in the loss.

Bellaire also kept pace with The Sabers at 5-0 by beating TC Prep 27-3. Elk Rapids Orange improved to 4-2 by beating Kingsley (2-2) 28-2. St. Francis (1.5 — 2.5) beat Benzie (2-5) 27.5-2.5.

In Division I/II, TC West continued to lead both the boys and girls classes. West Green stayed unbeaten on the year (6-0) by beating their own Gold squad 22-8. Jacob Noble led the Titans with a 399 two-game series and Ben Mohrhardt had a 203 game in the win.

TC Central Black moved to 5-2 overall by beating Glen Lake (1-6) 30-0. TC West White team beat Elk Rapids Black 23-7.

The Titans girls stayed unbeaten at 7-0 as Bryce Noble led them with a 201 game. TC Central (5-2) beat the West Gold (4-3) team 22-8. Trojan Samantha Mosley led both teams with a 182 game.

Teams in the conference are divided into four divisions based on MHSAA standards; Division I/II and Division III/IV, with each division having a girls and boys classification. Teams move into split squad meets over the next three weeks, competing on Fridays at 5 p.m. and then again on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. at Lucky Jacks in Traverse City.

TC's Thompson nets hat trick vs. MSU

Ferris State junior and Traverse City native Garrett Thompson gave the Bulldogs all the offense they'd need for a 3-0 victory over Michigan State on Saturday.

Thompson took over the team scoring lead with all three of the game's goals.

Former TC North Stars goalie C.J. Motte notched his third shutout of the year in the victory.
