Central OT verbals to Huskies

Gildersleeve was an all-conference, all-region selection

TRAVERSE CITY — For Tyler Gildersleeve, Michigan Tech had it all.

So the Traverse City Central offensive tackle wasted little time in giving Michigan Tech a verbal commitment after visiting the school earlier this month.

"They have a very good football team," he said. "And academically, I want to be an engineer, so that's definitely the school to go to."

The 6-foot-7, 280-pound senior helped Central to a 9-2 season in the fall, earning all-conference and all-region honors.

"I think it's a perfect fit for Tyler," Central coach Tom Passinault said. "They have the academics, the athletics and also the social part he's interested in — hunting, fishing, snowmobiling.

"I'm happy for him. He has tremendous upside. He's 6-foot-7 with a wide wingspan. He was one of their top line recruits."

Gildersleeve also considered Ferris State and Saginaw Valley.

Michigan Tech is coming off a 7-3 campaign. The Huskies tied for the title in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division.

Gildersleeve said he liked the stability of the coaching staff.

"They've been together six years," he said. "They definitely know what they're doing."

Gildersleeve can officially sign his scholarship offer in early February.
