JOLIET, Ill. — Goose Kallunki drove in three runs Friday night as Joliet beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 5-2 in a Frontier League season opener.

Traverse City batters struck out 14 times in the contest.
Jacob Clem went 5.1 innings, surrendering five runs on eight hits, to take the loss.
The Beach Bums took the early lead when Zach Kometani singled in Chase Burch in the top of the top fourth. But in the bottom of the fourth, the Slammers touched Clem for three runs. After Nate Wilder singled and Michael Wing doubled to put runners on second and third, Jerod Yakubik singled to drive in Wilder to tie the game. Former Beach Bums Kyle Maunus was hit by a pitch and then Seth Schwindenhammer hit a sacrifice fly to score Wing. Kallunki singled to knock in Yakubik.
Traverse City pulled to within one, 3-2, in the fifth when Ryan Still singled in Marcus Nidiffer, who had singled to open the frame and then moved to third on Andrew Cohn’s double.
But Joliet pushed two runs across in the sixth on Kallunki’s single.
