A three-run first inning got Lake Leelanau St. Mary off to a good start in the first game of Tuesday’s softball doubleheader against Frankfort and the Eagles went on to take both ends of the twinbill, 5-2 and 8-7.
Megan Popp was the winning pitcher in game one, striking out eight, walking one and allowing five hits. Frankfort’s Aleah Hunt took the loss, despite only giving up three hits.
Mary Rexroat got the win for the Eagles (9-4) in the second game, striking out three, walking one and allowing eight hits. Hunt took the loss again, allowing 11 hits.
Hannah Weber went 3-for-3 and Rachael Thon went 2-for-2 with two RBIs for the Eagles. For Frankfort, Sophie Nye was 2-for-3, and Anna Hunt and Kellan Kelly were each 2-for-4. MacKenna Kelly had a double in each game for Frankfort, while Courtney Bower tripled.

Michaela Williams was the winning pitcher in both games as Benzie Central swept Suttons Bay 7-1 and 8-3 in a softball twinbill on Tuesday.
Williams struck out 10 in the opener and added six strikeouts in the second game. Jane Hursey struck out 11 and had two hits of her own in the loss in the first game. Marla Reynolds had an RBI.
Williams, Dannie Gomulinski and Missy Sass each had two hits for Benzie in the opener, with Williams driving in two runs. Mariah Hansen had a two-run triple for the winners. Jessica Hunt had two RBIs for the Norsemen and Hursey struck out eight in the nightcap.
In game two, Hansen had two doubles among three hits and two RBIs. Charlotte Warsecke, Blair Frederick and Kelsey Judge each had two hits, with Frederick also driving in two runs. Williams chipped in with a hit as well for the Huskies (4-7, 3-1 Northwest), who play Kingsley on Friday.
