Trojans seek girls hoop coach

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Central is seeking its third girls varsity basketball coach in six years.

Ryan Knudsen stepped down after coaching the Trojans the last three seasons.

“He (Knudsen) did a great job for us,” athletic director Cody Inglis said. “He will be missed. He’s a high quality person as well as coach.”

Inglis said the job will be posted and he’s hoping to fill it in time for the summer workout programs.

“It would be ideal if we could put a coaching job with a teaching opening that might be out there,” Inglis said. “Those are tougher and tougher to come by, but we are really holding out hope that might be the case.”

Beach Bums seek hosts

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums are looking for local host families for the upcoming season.

Essentially, these families “adopt” a player for the summer — providing him with food and shelter. Beach Bums players will arrive on May 1 for a 14-day spring training camp. Players who make the team will be staying in Traverse City for the season, unless they are traded or released. The Frontier League season, including playoffs, will conclude by the middle of September.
