SUTTONS BAY — First place in the Northwest Conference belongs solely to Suttons Bay.
The Norsemen took over the top spot in the league's boys basketball standings after Devin Capron's buzzer-beating three-pointer beat the other undefeated team in Northwest play, Frankfort, 45-42 on Saturday.
Capron's clutch shot was Suttons Bay's answer after Frankfort's David Loney tied the game with a three-pointer of his own with 12 seconds to play.
Loney led all scorers with 17 points. Aaron Orban topped Suttons Bay, which has won five straight games, with 11 points.
Suttons Bay (5-1, 4-0 Northwest) held a 7-5 lead at the end of the first period and took a 15-11 advantage into the half. Frankfort (4-2, 3-1) erased Suttons Bay's lead in the third as the two teams headed into the fourth quarter tied 23-23, where both squads had their biggest offensive outputs.
Both teams hit the road for their next games. Suttons Bay travels to Bear Lake tonight, while Frankfort heads to Baldwin on Tuesday for a rematch of last year's regional semifinal contest won by Frankfort, 69-65 in overtime.
