Prep Basketball Roundup: Onaway rallies to edge Mancelona

MANCELONA — Onaway rallied in the second half to edge Mancelona 61-58 Tuesday in a Ski Valley Conference basketball showdown.

Onaway led 11-9 after one quarter, but Mancelona took a 29-21 lead into the half. The contest was tied 45-45 at the end of three quarters. Mancelona had a chance to send the game into overtime but missed a final shot.

Joe O’Bradovich led Onaway (5-1, 4-0 Ski Valley) with 26 points and added seven rebounds. Carlos Bautista chipped in with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Pat Dunn had nine points and a team-best 14 rebounds. Mancelona’s Brandon Dingman led all scorers with 31 points.

Bellaire 52

Johannesburg 39

Bellaire jumped out to a 15-12 lead after one period and slowly pulled away from there in defeating Johannesburg 52-39.

The Eagles (6-0, 4-0 Ski Valley) had a 29-21 advantage at the half and 45-33 after three quarters.

Denny Hall led all scorers with 24 points and Hunter Rowe added 16 points. Brandon Huff scored 11 for Johannesburg.

Bellaire is at Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday.

Pellston 67

Central Lake 61

Pellston trailed by two points at halftime, but took a four-point lead after three periods and went on to beat Central Lake 67-61.

The Hornets were down 28-26 at the break, but took a 47-43 lead heading into the fourth and maintained that edge to get the win. Will Brockman had 23 points and 17 rebounds in the loss for Central Lake (0-5).

Elk Rapids 67

Kalkaska 55

Shae Somers and Cole Walker each scored 22 points as Elk Rapids bounced back from a loss to Benzie Central one night earlier by downing Kalkaska 67-55.

Somers also had seven steals, while Walker grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds. Adam Trautman scored 11 points for the Elks (6-2, 3-1 Lake Michigan).

Will Nobel had 22 points to pace Kalkaska and Aaron Zimmerman chipped in with 19. Elk Rapids is at St. Francis on Friday. Kalkaska (2-5) is at East Jordan on Friday.

Petoskey 42

Cadillac handed Petoskey its first Big North Conference loss in a 50-42 victory.
