Traverse City West players remain teammates in college

TRAVERSE CITY — Four Traverse City West basketball teammates will remain so — even though they’re all set to graduate this spring.

Jeremiah Williams, Kendrick Myers, Nate Castor and Sam Javed are all slated to play basketball next year for Kirtland Community College.

“It’s pretty unusual,” West boys basketball coach Brett Graham said. “They’re pretty excited about it. I think that played a role in their decisions. It offered them a chance to continue to play together.”

Williams was a first-team all-Big North Conference pick, as well as Basketball Coach Association of Michigan special mention all-state, BCAM academic all-state and a Record-Eagle Dream Team member. The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 15 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and just under two steals a game.

A 6-foot-7 center, Myers was a second-team all-BNC selection, averaging 11.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.5 steals and an assist a game.

A 5-11 guard, Castor chipped in seven points, 2.5 boards and an assist and a steal a contest, while the 6-6 Javed contributed 1.5 points and a rebound a game as Myers’ primary backup.

WEST’S MONTGOMERY TO AQUINAS: TC West’s Brandon Montgomery has committed to play soccer for Aquinas College.

The all-Big North midfielder was the league’s leader in assists and points last year.

HILL TO HILLSDALE: Kalkaska’s Zach Hill is headed to play football for Division 2 Hillsdale College.

Hill threw for 1,216 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior, and ended his Blazers career with 3,012 rushing yards and 42 TDs with another 637 receiving yards and four scores.

He was also Kalkaska’s kicker and had 152 tackles, a Blazers career-record 12 interceptions and two TDs on defense.
