Rams sweep LMC ski titles

HARBOR SPRINGS — Harbor Springs swept the Lake Michigan Conference ski championship Wednesday at Boyne Highlands.

The Rams took the girls title with 27 points. Elk Rapids-St. Francis was second with 65.

Harbor Springs won the boys crown with 38 points. Elk Rapids-St. Francis came in second with 82.

In the girls race, the Rams claimed the top three spots in slalom and six of the top eight in giant slalom. Abigail Hackman won the slalom in 1:17.34.

Carlee McCardel of Elk Rapids-St. Francis captured the giant slalom in 1:00.30. She was fourth in slalom (1:20.55). Teammate Krissi Dressler came in fifth in slalom (1:20.60), Lauren Hansen 11th (1:23.03) and Haley Chell 16th (1:29.57). In giant slalom, Sara Trilla placed fifth (1:02.55) for Elk Rapids-St. Francis while Hansen took 10th (1:05.01) and Dressler 13th (1:05.94).

In the boys event, Harbor Springs’ Shea Fuhrman was a double-winner, capturing the slalom in 1:14.70 and giant slalom in 1:00.17.

The Rams took the top three spots in slalom and three of the top four in giant slalom.

For Elk Rapids-St. Francis, Nick Cunningham came in fourth (1:19.00), Jake Klein sixth (1:20.18), Addison Clark ninth (1:24.83) and Casey Weitzel 12th (1:25.93) in slalom. In giant slalom, Sean Wells placed fifth (1:02.83), Klein 13th (1:04.23), Cunningham 15th (1:04.83) and Clark 18th (1:05.63).

Buckley    41

Carter Lee scored a game-high 22 points as Glen Lake defeated Buckley 72-41 in Northwest Conference play.

Michael O’Brien added 15 for the Lakers.

Austin Burmania netted 15 for Buckley (0-11), which travels to Mesick on Friday.

Kingsley    50

Suttons Bay    40

Kingsley outscored Suttons Bay 13-2 in the third quarter to pull away to a 50-40 win over the Norsemen.

Kingsley led 27-26 at half.

Austin Olson led the Stags with 17 points. Aaron Orban had 15 for Suttons Bay, which travels to Benzie on Friday.

Forest Area     67

Inland Lakes     55

Four players scored in double figures as Forest Area notched a 67-55 Ski Valley Conference victory over Inland Lakes.

Justin Burke put up 22 points and eight rebounds, Tyler Birgy scored a career-high 15 points, Austin Vance chipped in 15 points and 10 boards and Chad Roberts came off the bench for 13 points and three steals.

Inland Lakes was led by Dakota Davedowski’s 26 points and 13 by Nick Howery.

The Warriors (10-3, 9-2) travel Friday to Bellaire.
