---- — Chittles earn Family of Year

TRAVERSE CITY — Erick and Kim Chittle, along with their children Adam, Abigail, Mary and Emma, have been named the Grand Traverse Tennis Camps Family of the Year.

The Family of the Year award is based on involvement and success in the summer program.

Meanwhile, Spencer Kroupa and Mike Meindertsma earned Varsity Awards; while Carson Bourdo, Matt Failor, Adam Chittle and Freddie Kopplow received Excellence Awards.

Camp champs for the third session included Abigail Chittle, Failor, Teddy Huff and Macey Waskiewicz.

Camp champs for the fourth session were Lucy Stiebel, Drew Humphrey, Megan Hatfield and Brad Muzzarelli.

West’s McDougall headed to Highlands

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West left-hander Trent McDougall will play baseball next season at Division II New Mexico Highlands.

McDougall played a key role in West’s 24-5 season that included Big North Conference and Division 1 district titles.

Former Traverse City Beach Bums hitting coach Shannon Hunt helped recruit McDougall to the Highlands.

Reunion setfor Capitals

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Capitals, an independent men’s semi-pro baseball team that played games throughout the state and Midwest, will hold a reunion Aug. 31 at Wuerfel Park.

Former players and coaches are getting together at a Traverse City Beach Bums game. Those who played for the Capitals from 1966-1985 are invited to attend, swap stories and see former teammates. The group will meet at 6 p.m. outside the gates or at the party deck during the game.

Slay the Bayslated for today

TRAVERSE CITY — The Slay the Bay open water swim challenge will take place today at 9 a.m. at the Bryant Park beach.

There will be one- and two-mile events.

The events are a fundraiser for TC Breakers. Those 12 and older are welcome to participate.
