BIG RAPIDS — Nick MacGirr and Joel Ledford led Benzie Central to a championship in the Tom Ryan Baseball Tournament at Big Rapids.
MacGirr was 4 for 4 with each hit a double, driving in four runs and walking three times. Ledford had five hits in six at-bats — four of which went for extra bases — and struck out eight in seven innings of a 6-4 win over Big Rapids in which he gave up only four hits.
The victory against the Cardinals put the Huskies in the title game against Morley-Stanwood, which Benzie won 7-1 as Zack Perry tossed a complete game and struck out eight to improve his record to 3-1.
Ledford was 3 for 3 with a double and triple in the opener, while Perry had three hits and an RBI and Jackson Ledford drove in a run. MacGirr was 1 for 1 with a two-run double and was walked three times.
Against Morley, MacGirr doubled three times and drove in two, while Joel Ledford was 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles. Austin Ross, Perry and Jackson Ledford each had an RBI.
The Huskies (13-3, 7-1 Northwest Conference) host Mesick in conference play Tuesday.
TC West wins two at Aquinas Invite
Traverse City West outscored its opponents 25-1 in posting two victories at the Aquinas Invitational.
Keegan Kenny struck out seven in five innings of three-hit ball as the Titans routed Ionia 14-1.
Kenny added two hits of his own and didn't allow an earned run.
Offensively, the Titans were led by Will Reed (two hits, double, RBI), Collin Bush (two hits, RBI), Walt Borkovich (two hits, two RBIs), Geordon Carter (double, RBI) and Trent McDougall (double, RBI).
Borkovich belted a grand slam homer in an 11-0 win over Corunna and had two hits total.
Paul Soma struck out four in four innings and Jared Ross came on for three innings as the pair combined to hold the Cavaliers to three hits.
