TCC sweeps singles matches

---- — Traverse City Central swept all four singles matches and three out of four doubles matches to down crosstown rival TC West 7-1 in boys tennis at West High School.

Syler Norgaard beat Jeff Linenger 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 singles; Max Knoblock defeated Zane Gum 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2; Cam Young topped Henry Linenger 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3; and Nick Yergens was victorious over Ashton Lawton 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4.

West’s victory came at No. 4 doubles as the team of David Mather and Erik Anton won over Spencer Kroupa and Michael Meindertsma 7-6, 7-5.

Central’s doubles wins came from Caleb Heimberger and Hayden Drury, 6-1, 6-2 over John Linenger and Taylor Brown; Yani Beeker and Parker Berden 6-3, 6-1 over Kieran Laursen and Mitch Winowiecki; and Jack Seymour and Austin Wieland 6-3, 6-3 over Jake Newhouse and San VanHoorne.

TC West JV 1

TC Central’s junior varsity tennis team won all four doubles flights en route to a 7-1 victory over TC West in their first dual match of the season.

Doubles winners for the Trojans were: Andy Colombo and Nate Michno, 6-1, 6-1; Carl Rasmussen and Danny Madion, 6-1, 6-0; Jack McKay and Luke Fagerstrom, 6-0, 6-2; and Luke Smith and Noah McKenzie, who won by default.

Singles winners for Central were: Ron Dohm, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1; Chase Knoblock, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2; and Ben Grams, who won at No. 4 by default.

West’s Zach Walton won 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.


TC West 9

Ogemaw Heights 0

TC West scored nine goals in the first half on the way to a 9-0 rout over Ogemaw Heights in a game that was called by mercy after one half of play.

Jack Lhamon and Christien Geiger had a pair of goals each for the Titans (2-4-1, 2-0 Big North). Charlie Clark, Nick Ragel-Wilson, Hunter Lumsden, Alex Patten and Noah Withey also netted goals. Ty Troxell and Cam Sipple both added two assists. Ragel-Wilson, Geiger, Scott Wesenberg and Lhamon chipped in with assists.

Jacob Casciano was in net.

West is at Gaylord on Thursday.

TC Central 3

Alpena 0

TC Central remained undefeated in Big North Conference play after a 3-0 win over Alpena.

The Trojans (5-3-1, 3-0 Big North) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one half and never looked back.

Grant Dulude, Jack Dulude and Alex Oliver had the three Central goals. Kurt Frick had two assists and Adam Stepan one. Josh Belcher made three saves in goals for the Trojans, who had good midfield play from Owen Stratton and Noah Mitchell-Ward.

Central hosts Petoskey on Thursday.

Elk Rapids 4

Boyne City 0

Elk Rapids won its Lake Michigan Conference opener, 4-0, over Boyne City.

Andy Atkinson and Preston McDowell led the Elks with a goal and an assist each. Jake Klein and Nick Cunningham added the other goals. Jackson Waugh and Tom Wirtz shared netminding duties for Elk Rapids (1-2), which travels to Grayling today.

Burt Lake NMC 7

Forest Area 5

Freshman Alex Vandeyacht had four goals and three assists as a high-powered Burt Lake Northern Michigan Christian attack defeated Forest Area 7-5.

Ben Vinz added two goals and an assist, Jeff Thompson tallied a goal and an assist and Christian Vinz made 12 saves in goal for the Eagles (2-4).

Jeremy Richards had a goal and three assists for Forest Area.

Tyler Leffew added a goal and an assist, while other scores for the Warriors (0-5) came from Alex Birgy, Preston Leonard and Josh Garthow.

Garthow, who was in goal in the first half, made six saves. Ben Kammeraad made seven saves in goal in the second half.

Forest Area hosts Cheboygan on Friday. Burt Lake NMC is at Roscommon on Friday.

Bellaire 7

Cheboygan 1

Bellaire improved to 7-0 with a 5-1 win over host Cheboygan.

The Eagles were led by Hunter Rowe, who scored two goals and assisted on another. Drew Emery scored one goal and had an assist. Noah Suppes and Adam Underwood contributed the other goals for Bellaire, which led 4-1 at the half, and Luke Bigsby had an assist.

In goal for Bellaire was Adam Crandall, with six saves to his credit. Bellaire hosts Harbor Light on Thursday.

TC Christian 0

Suttons Bay 0

Aaron Orban made 13 saves on 17 TC Christian shots to help Suttons Bay (0-2-1) get a 0-0 tie against the Sabres.

David Bump made seven saves in goal for Christian.

TC Central JV 3

Alpena JV 0

Scott May and Marshall Mast each scored and added assists in Traverse City Central’s 3-0 junior varsity soccer win over host Alpena.

Jorge Antonio also notched a goal in the win, with Lars Hornburg chipping in with an assist.

Grant Lesoski made two saves in net for the Trojans (3-0-1), who host Petoskey on Thursday.


TC Christian 3

Ellsworth 0

Rylee Price recorded 12 kills and Maddie White tallied 11 as TC Christian swept a match at Ellsworth, 25-18, 25-11, 25-15.

Price also contributed one block and White added six aces. Olenka Alekseyenko chipped in with nine aces and one kill, while Aubrey Heersema had 21 assists for the Sabres, who are at the Pine River Invitational on Saturday.

Mancelona 3

East Jordan 2

Mancelona won the last two games to slip past East Jordan, 19-25, 26-24, 17-25, 29-27 and 15-12.

Mancelona (2-0) was led by Dakota Derrer (19 kills) and Lindsay Friday (14 kills). Logan Allen contributed 36 assists.

Pellston beats Harbor Light, Harbor Springs

Pellston swept a pair of matches over Harbor Light and Harbor Springs in a tri-match at Harbor Springs.

The Hornets (8-5) beat the host Rams 25-15, 25-20 and took care of Harbor Light, 25-20, 25-22.

Individual leaders for Pellston were: Abbie Welch with 32 digs and eight kills; Mackenzie Wright with 19 digs, 21 kills and seven aces; Breah Carter with 23 digs and three aces; Hanah Carter with 12 digs, 44 assists and three aces; Kelly Lewis with 25 digs, four aces and two kills; Samantha Stark with six kills and two blocks; Shaylee Smith with 10 kills and two aces; Olivia Grant with four kills and eight digs; and Breanna Sisman with three digs and two kills.
