---- — Three wrestlers place at nationals
TRAVERSE CITY — Three local youth wrestlers placed at the NUWAY nationals tournament at Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek on April 13-14.
Traverse City’s Dutch Ballan and Kingsley’s Baron Leonard had the best finishes of the three, each placing third in the 54-pound and 60-pound weight classes, respectively. Traverse City’s Wylie Edick was sixth at the 75-pound division.
Beach Bums to host FanFest
TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Beach Bums eighth annual FanFest will take place Saturday at Wuerfel Park.
The event starts at 8 a.m.
Individual game tickets will be on sale. In addition, there will a one-day only offer where fans can buy 10 tickets and get five free.
The home opener is May 21 against the Evansville Otters. Traverse City will play 54 home games this year.
Beach Bums players and coaches will be available for autographs. There will be high school games olayed during the day, featuring St. Francis, Elk Rapids, Muskegon Reeths-Puffer and Benzie Central. Those games start at 10 a.m.
Traverse City will also be hosting a job fair for game-day employees at FanFest.
Golf league seeking members
TRAVERSE CITY — The Ladies 9-hole Golf League is accepting new members.
The league is holding its annual organizational meeting on Wednesday, May 1 at Elmbrook Golf Club. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. For more information, call Barbara at 041-0386.
Tennis camp registration underway
TRAVERSE CITY — Registration forms for Grand Traverse Tennis Camps are now available online at gttenniscamp.com.
The camps offer tennis instruction for beginners, intermediates, 10-under, and adults.
Junior Excellence and High School Team Camp programs run all summer for middle school age graduates of morning sessions, and for high school varsity players.
Registration for camp junior tournaments, the Cherry Festival Open and the Northern Michigan Junior Open, are also available at gttenniscamp.com.
Rodeo set for July in Buckley
BUCKLEY — The Traverse City Area World Championship Rodeo will be held July 5-6 at Southside Festival Grounds in Buckley.
As an official IPRA rodeo, seven events are scheduled including bull riding, Saddle bronc, bareback, steer wrestling, tie down roping, barrel racing and team roping.
Hennrick honored by Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS — Taylor Hennrick, a St. Francis graduate, was one of six University of Detroit Mercy student-athletes to be named to the Horizon League’s winter academic all-league teams.
Hennrick is in the physician assistant program at UDM. He has a cumulative 3.72 GPA. During the indoor track season, Hennrick improved on his own Titan record in the heptathlon at the Horizon League Indoor Championships placing second with 4480 points. He also placed first in the heptathlon for the Youngstown State Invitational earning 4228 overall points.
