TC hockey players named first-team All-State

---- — TRAVERSE CITY — Four Traverse City Central hockey players were named first-team All-State.

Forward Cooper Macdonell, defenseman Brady Brantley, goaltender Bill Vermetten and forward Nico Saco were each selected to the Division 2 first team.

Central forward Cam Givens was a second-team pick, and TC West goalie Carter Edmondson was a second-team pick in Division 1. The Bay Reps' Zach Hill also was selected to the Division 1 second team.

All are seniors, aside from Givens.

Macdonell scored 24 goals and racked up 62 points in 27 games for the Trojans, who went undefeated in Big North Conference play.

Brantley had 18 points in 22 games. Saco had 17 goals, 37 assists and 54 points this season for the Trojans in 27 games.

Vermetten posted a 17-4 record with a 2.44 goals-against average and three shutouts.

Givens had 27 goals and 48 points in 27 games, while Edmondson registered a 2.49 GAA, .920 save percentage and two shutouts. Hill put up 26 goals and 47 points to lead the Reps in both categories.

TC Central, TC West and the Reps also earned team academic all-state honors from the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches' Association.

Individual academic all-state honors went to Central's Austin Mackey, Kyle Ludwig, Mitchell Ward, Brady Girard, Macdonell and Saco. West's Luke Piotrowski and Alec Carruth and the Reps' Hill and Scott Fisher each earned academic all-state honors as well.
