CRESTWOOD, Ill. — Carlo Testa and Zach Kometani each collected three hits, Jake Sabol threw six shutout innings and the Traverse City Beach Bums moved back into first place in the East Division after an 8-0 win over Windy City on Sunday.
Testa was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Kometani was 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the Beach Bums offense. Sabol, who got the start, scattered five hits, walked two and fanned three to improve to 6-4. Matt Miller and Chris Squires came on in relief and managed to hold the ThunderBolts off the scoreboard.
The win improves Traverse City to 27-18 and moves the Beach Bums one-half game ahead of Florence for first.
Traverse City scored a pair of runs each in the second and third innings to build a 4-0 lead. They added two more in the eighth and single runs in the fifth and ninth innings.
Taylor Wrenn was 2-for-5 and Howard went 2-for-3 for the Beach Bums.
Mike Wickswat (2-7) took the loss for Windy City, allowing five runs and six hits in five innings.
The win allowed the Beach Bums to bounce back from a 9-6 loss on Saturday. Traverse City faced an 9-3 deficit in the seventh, but scored three in the eighth to close the gap.
Kyle Teague (1-1) took the loss for Traverse City. Jose Vargas, Testa and Howard each had two hits for the Beach Bums.
