Zombie 5K set for Oct. 27
TRAVERSE CITY — The fourth annual Zombie 5K run will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27.
More than 1,000 runners and walkers participated a year ago. Registration numbers are on track for a record turnout this year, organizers said. Participants are encouraged to dress-up like zombies
To pre-register visit www.tczombierun.com or contact the TART Trails office at 941-4300. The cost prior to Oct. 26 is $30 for adults, $20 for teens, and $15 for children 12 and under. Registrants will pay $35, $25, and $20, respectively, on the day of the race. Proceeds benefit TART Trails.
3,000 expected for Turkey Trot
TRAVERSE CITY — Organizers are expecting more than 3,000 runners for the Turkey Trot races on Thanksgiving morning.
A year ago, nearly 2,100 participants competed. The event donated over $31,500 in proceeds to TART Trails, Big Brothers Big Sisters, March of Dimes, Angel Works, TCAPS and the Traverse Bay Children's Advocacy Center. This year's goal is to raise at least $32,000. If that is met, the Nov. 22 event will have donated over $100,000 to local non-profits in five years.
There will be a 5-mile course as well as the 5K (3.1 miles) course. To register visit trot.evugo.com. The cost — through Nov. 5 — is $32 for the 5K, $35 for the 5-mile, $15 for those 18-under.
5K XC Challenge set for Dec. 1
TRAVERSE CITY --The inaugural Farmland 5K European Style XC Challenge will be held Saturday, Dec. 1.
The off-road 3.1-mile footrace race will begin at noon and is held on mowed grass pathways surrounding the 150 acres of centennial farm property owned by Lewie Rasho, who has been donating and maintaining the dedicated course southeast of Traverse City since 2001.
Race Director Lisa Taylor created the event to introduce runners to cross country style racing, which has its origins in Europe. The December date was chosen to offer a "naturally tough, true northern Michigan" event, Taylor said.
There will be cross country team competition as well, which will recognize the score of the five top age category finishers. Interested teams should sign up before Nov. 17.
Registration fee is $30 until noon on Nov. 29. There will be no day of registration. However, those wishing to register in person may do so on Friday, Nov. 30, from 4—8 p.m. at Running Fit.
